Dr. Sunny Kang
MD, FRCPC

I'm a psychiatrist based in Calgary, Alberta, with a special interest in delivering focused, time-limited psychiatric care. My practice is built on the belief that good psychiatry should feel collaborative, purposeful, and deeply human.

I completed my psychiatry training at the University of Saskatchewan and the University of Calgary, where I spent my final year in child psychiatry. Though I practice as an adult psychiatrist, I have a particular interest in working with patients navigating the transition into adulthood — a period that often falls between the cracks of the two systems.

I practice virtually throughout Alberta, with a focus on adults experiencing depression, anxiety, ADHD, and Bipolar disorder.

My approach is pragmatic and evidence-based — but I never lose sight of the person in front of me. I believe clarity of plan and honest communication are as therapeutic as any prescription.

  • Medical degree, followed by psychiatry residency at the University of Saskatchewan and University of Calgary
  • Registered with CPSA (College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta)
What I Offer

Focused care,
where it matters most.

Tailor Made Psychiatry provides time-limited consultations — typically 3 to 6 months — designed to clarify diagnosis, optimize treatment, and build a clear path forward with your family doctor. I consider a range of factors when we design your treatment plan together — medication, therapy, and lifestyle, including sleep, exercise, and nutrition — working with you to find the combination that best helps ease your distress. You'll find practical handouts on these in the patient resources.

Depression

Comprehensive assessment and treatment planning for major depressive disorder and related conditions, including medication management and psychoeducation.

Anxiety Disorders

Assessment and evidence-based management of generalized anxiety, social anxiety, panic disorder, and related conditions.

ADHD

Adult ADHD evaluation, diagnosis, and medication management, with practical strategies for executive function and daily life.

Bipolar Disorder

Careful diagnosis, mood stabilization planning, and ongoing psychiatric support for Bipolar disorder, with a focus on stability and quality of life.

Psychiatric Consultation

Second-opinion consultations for complex cases, diagnostic clarification, and treatment recommendations for family physicians and specialists.

Psychoeducation

Helping patients and families understand their conditions, treatment options, and what to expect — building confidence and informed agency.

✦ This practice does not provide emergency psychiatric services. If you are in crisis, please call 988 or go to your nearest emergency department.

The Process

How it works.

01
Referral

Your family doctor sends a referral. I accept referrals from GPs and other physicians throughout Alberta.

02
Initial Consultation

A thorough virtual assessment — typically 60–75 minutes — to understand your history, concerns, and goals.

03
Treatment & Follow-Up

A clear plan with regular follow-up appointments over 3–6 months to monitor progress and adjust as needed.

04
Transition Back

A detailed discharge summary and recommendations to your GP, ensuring continuity of care.

All appointments are conducted virtually by secure video — there's nothing to install; you'll join from a private link sent before your appointment. You must be physically located in Alberta at the time of your appointment.
